Background

Leeds Visual Arts Forum is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to raise the profile of the visual arts in Leeds by:

• Providing a focus for information exchange for artists and arts professionals in the city and surrounding area via Listserve.
• Providing a portal to the visual arts in Leeds via its website. Developing events and projects in response to the needs of its membership.

LVAF is committed to raising the profile of the visual arts in Leeds through information exchange, advocacy, the website and networking events. The steering group meets on a monthly basis and is made up of volunteers with a wide range of professional experience across the visual arts.

One of LVAF’s most successful initiatives is Listserve, a free messaging service for nearly 2000 artists and arts professionals in Leeds. Subscribers can post and receive notice of events, commissions, collaborations, calls for submission, job postings, and news about the art scene in Leeds.

Current LVAF steering group members are: Louise Atkinson, Sarah Brown, Abby Dix-Mason, Hondartza Fraga, Pippa Hale, Moira Innes, Zöe Sawyer.

Requirement

LVAF wants to refresh the organisation’s image by creating a new logo and style guidelines. Our current logo has been in use for over 10 years and needs hauling into the 21st century. We would like to appoint a Leeds-based designer to work on the re-branding that will work across a range of printed and digital media.

The primary objectives are:

• To give LVAF’s branding a more contemporary look
• To create a logo that will encompass LVAF core identity as a democratic and open portal to all visual arts in the city

Overall design requirements

• To redesign the LVAF brand as stand alone logo AND with strap line in words ‘Leeds Visual Arts Forum’
• The new logo should be simple and clear, and suitable to be used on-line (eg on the new website and as a avatar for social media) and across a range of printed material.
• The logo should work in colour and mono
• To create a logo and style guidelines (using an open source font that works across all media)
• Proposals to be supplied for as a low resolution PDF (maximum size 1MB)

Standards

Compliance with the DDA and its codes of practice is regarded as minimum standard. For example, care must be taken when using light text over light background or when using text over images, appropriate font/point size must be considered etc. For more information, please see http://www.rnib.org.uk/professionals/accessibleinformation/text/Pages/text.aspx

LVAF will have the right to use the new logo freely on all publicity.

Budget

A nominal fee of £200 will be awarded to the successful applicant. In addition, the successful proposal will be used in the design of the new LVAF website and on a new strategic document that will be distributed amongst key cultural organisations, local authority officers and elected members, businesses, funders and key stakeholders.

Response

We invite designers to submit a proposal to include the following information:

• Proposal/drafts for redesign of Leeds Visual Arts Forum logo (maximum file size 1MB)
• Examples of work from previous projects (maximum file size 1MB)
• Designers may submit more than one design if they wish

We do not intend to interview prospective designers but to make a decision based on these submissions. An assessment of the submission would be made on the basis of the quality of the submissions and how these response to LVAF aims.
