Lucy Meredith, cultural dynamo and the only person I know who beats me to the free bar, gives us a taster of a new fringe festival in Leeds this weekend . . .

Culture Vulture preview: On the Edge Festival @Templeworks

If you’re at a loose end this weekend, There is a new festival launching at Templeworks in Leeds 15th to 17th July.

This is the first event from The On the Edge team and is billed as a community arts festival which aims “to bring both new audience and performers to Leeds, and also shine a spotlight on the talent that lies in the city’s different communities uniting Leeds.” This weekend is to be taster of things to come, like a mini fringe festival but without the F word.

It is certainly a mixed bag of arty treats with a Visual art exhibition curated by What is art; Theatre performances From the likes of The Skeleton Project, Urban Sprawl (Yorkshire’s only homeless theatre company) and Broken ground, Live music on the loading bay stage from Himself and Raw Peaches (Voted Leeds Best Unsigned Band 2011) as well as Leeds favourites Madame Laycock and her Dabeno Pleasures, and many others.

There is also performance poetry from Hayden Cohen, Live comic art illustration by Steve Hackenbush, Belly dancers, Market stalls for your perusal and DJ Kodo playing til late.

So if you’re looking for a taster into the arts this weekend this is the place for you…..curry, cake, beer and entertainment, sounds like a great weekend to me!
