Upsetting the Balance . . . win tickets to release your comedy instincts.

West Yorkshire Playhouse is offering a couple of tickets to a fabulous event next Saturday. Upsetting The Balance workshop is run by the “riotously inventive” (so The Times say) Told By An Idiot Theatre Company who are putting on their new show “And The Horse You Rode In On” in Leeds from 29 Mar to 2 Apr. The workshop offers a really good opportunity to work closely with the theatre company for a day and learn the processes that go into devising a show. It’s aimed at writers or budding performers who are willing take part in practical exercises but it will be a really fun and interesting day (especially Exercise Eleven where you get to massage someone’s bum! Check the resource pack on the web site. My tip for the day is take good care who you sit next to . . . ). The tickets include free entry into the Upsetting The Balance panel event and the evening’s performance of And The Horse You Rode In On.

Here’s a bit more info about the workshop and panel debate:

Upsetting the Balance workshop is led by Paul Hunter, Co-founder and Co-Artistic Director of Told by an Idiot. The workshop will explore the company’s unique approach to creating comedy. This element has been central to the Told by an Idiot’s work since its formation in 1993, both in devised shows like And The Horse You Rode In On and in classic texts such as their recent RSC collaboration The Comedy of Errors. Through a variety of exercises focusing on timing, rhythm and play and through verbal and physical improvisation, participants will discover their playful side and release their comic instinct.

DATE AND TIME: Saturday 2 April 10.30am – 3pm
Tickets £30 (discounts £20) includes workshop and tickets to Upsetting the Balance Panel Debate Saturday 2 April 5pm – 6pm A distinguished panel of artists and academics focus on the boundaries and censorship of comedy, and evening performance of AND THE HORSE YOU RODE IN ON.

To win your free ticket simply make up the funniest caption for the picture that begins this post (sorry, it was the only mildly amusing horse related pic I could find) . . . winners will be chosen on Thursday, 12 noon.

  1. The girls were very excited about giving the bum massage, although they didn’t realise it was equine massage.

  2. “Really, I think mother is taking the budget holiday thing too far this time…”
