Welcome to Yorkshire backs free street theatre festival

Tourism giant Welcome to Yorkshire are backing a free outdoor festival of fun showcasing some of the best street performers in the UK who will be showing off their skills in Hebden Bridge.

A dizzying array of acts from a flea circus to turbo charged grannies on shopping trolleys will be performing on four Street Sundae stages helping the picturesque Pennine town celebrate its recovery from last year’s devestating floods as part of the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival.

Festival Director Helen Meller said:

As well as putting on big name acts like John Cooper Clarke and June Tabor we wanted to put something back into our community after the trauma of the floods, and what better way to do that than by putting on free shows from some utterly amazing acts.

Last year thousands of people packed the streets of Hebden watching the street performers, but we want everyone in Yorkshire to join the party because there really is something for all the family over the two days, Better still, in these tough economic times, it won’t cost you a penny.

Street Sundaes have won the backing of Welcome to Yorkshire who aim to make the county the number one UK tourist destination and are enthusiastic supporters of the Arts Festival which is celebrating its 20th anniversary,

Welcome to Yorkshire Chief Executive Gary Verity said:

Hebden Bridge is a key element of our drive to welcome more tourists into the county and from humble beginnings the Arts Festival has grown into a nationally respected week-long event.

We welcome this commitment to making the streets of Hebden Street come alive and their open invitation to the people of Yorkshire and beyond to join in. Next year Le Tour passes through Hebden Bridge so this is the perfect opportunity to see some top quality entertainment and pick your spot to watch the race.
