Northern Ballet Theatre, kind generous souls that they are love the Culture Vulture readers so much that they are offering the opportunity to win a pair of tickets for Romeo and Juliet (27th February) and another pair to As Time Goes By (23rd February) both at Leeds Grand Theatre

Most of us know of the plot for Romeo and Juliet, (or think we do) so here’s a little bit about As Time Goes By

Title piece As Time Goes By conjures up an era of classic glamour as the dancers perform stylish choreography to a selection of timeless songs including Always and Sophisticated Swing. Famous Leeds-born jazz sensation, Peter Grant, whose debut album sold over 100,000 copies, will perform the songs live.

Returning by popular demand Mark Godden’s breathtaking Angels in the Architecture is inspired by the lives and times of the Shaker people and performed to Aaron Copland’s ‘Appalachian Spring’.

Completing the programme is a selection of exciting shorts. These include Ossein by Wayne McGregor, resident artist of the Royal Opera House and artistic director of Random Dance Company. This solo piece was created in 2006 and is set to music by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Yoko Ichino stages Petipa’s world famous Grand Pas De Deux from Don Quixote, set to Ludwig Minkus’ famous score, highlighting the Company’s extensive classical abilities. NBT Ballet Master and former principal dancer Daniel de Andrade will première Glass Canon set to music by Scottish musicians Moishe’s Bagel. Finally a new piece, Powerhouse Rhumba by NBT’s Artistic Director David Nixon, set to an excerpt of ‘Powerhouse’ by Australian Composer Graham Koehne will complete the programme.

To win just tell us in the comments box which performance and we will pick a name at random on 21st Feb. Please don’t enter if you are unable to make the date. 1. It would be amazing to see Romeo and Juliet because I’ve just realised though I’ve read it many times and watched the film, I’ve never actually seen it live!

  2. i’d like tickets to see any ballet any time, please. i desperately need some grace and beauty in my life…

  3. Romeo & Juliet, please. My daughter is going to be in the play Romeo and Juliet at her Drama School. To see the professionals would be excellent.
