Family Olsen

Family Olsen

Olsen has become something of a cult event; for the last six years they’ve been putting together the most beautiful (and challenging) screenings of artist film and video, programmed on an irregular basis, and always on lazy  Sunday afternoons at the Hyde Park Picture House.

They add to the art with a heady mixture of home-baked cake and cups of tea that cost less than a single ear of pop corn at the local Vue.

They describe their DIY ethos thus:  “Olsen events are about the act of collective viewing, the social possibilities of cinema, and making available work that might otherwise not be seen.”

But the next Olsen will be a little different. Undoubtedly inspired by the fact that their own kids are always crawling around the cinema floor and even take part in the film selection process on occasion, they are hosting the first ever Family Olsen.

The event has been crafted with children in mind, but will be a memorably rumpus cinematic experience for grown-ups too. They will be screening artists’ film and video, with a musical interlude and home-made food.

In their own words: “It will be brilliant.”

The full line up is yet to be announced but will include work by Guy Sherwin, Greg Kurcewicz, Cyprien Gaillard, Rose Lowder, Malcolm le Grice, David Blandy, Len Lye, Paul Bush and more, plus live music and a fluxus score or two.

PS: You don’t need to have kids to go to this!
