Alan Bennett’s The History Boys, the internationally acclaimed story of a group of sixth-formers at Grammar School in Sheffield aiming for Oxbridge, has proved phenomenonally popular since its debut in 2004. And this February it makes a welcome return to it’s native Yorkshire when it comes to West Yorkshire Playhouse, in a co-production with Theatre Royal Bath Productions, Marking the very first production of this multi-award winning modern classic since the original National Theatre version.

We were lucky to be sent a sneaky peek of the boys at work in rehearsals, how could we resist sharing them with our lovely readers!

Thanks to our lovely friends at West Yorkshire Playhouse we have a pair of tickets for The History Boys on Tuesday 9th February at 7.30pm up for grabs. 1. I learnt that school isn’t everything, that grades isn’t everything, that popularity isn’t everything, that it’s not what you do but how you do it that mattters, that friends will be there long after you have left…

  2. Thanks to the wonderful Mr Wagner, I learned that a Van der Graaff generates a static electricity field which makes your hair stand on end. He also taught us how to understand our electricity bill (sadly forgotten), launched a rocket on the school playing field, and gave us tips on the best way to construct a go-cart. These are surely all important lessons…..

  3. The most important thing I learnt at school was an appreciation and understanding of literature. Thank you Mr Flanagan!
All these years later, I still love to curl up with a good book.
The ‘geek’ me also loves to research ideas and theories, something I now use in my writing.

  4. I went to American public schools…. The most important thing I learnt was that having the biggest, most desirable ‘wall of bangs’ will prevent you from getting too picked on… And also, that there is nothing more brilliant than the written word when done amazingly well.

  5. Not to take too much notice of the cool kids at school.

We’re all finding our way and you never know, when you see them again in 10 years time, the roles may have been reversed.

Be true to yourself, have fun and all will work out fine in the end :o)
