WHAT IS UPSTART?
The Northern Art Prize has always been about celebrating and promoting the wealth of creativity and excellence in the arts that exists in the North, and over the past few years has helped to raise the profile of talented local artists.
This year the Northern Art Prize will be taking this celebration further, by offering a new creative education initiative for a selected group of 16-18 year olds developed in association with Logistik, and working in partnership with Leeds Ahead, Leeds City Council and Leeds Metropolitan University.
This new initiative, UpstART, offers 6 young people the chance to participate in a unique programme of practical art workshops with local artists and personal mentoring sessions with professionals from the creative industry. Participants in the UpstART programme will also have the exclusive opportunity to attend a VIP viewing of the Northern Art Prize exhibition at Leeds Art Gallery prior to the exhibition opening, and be able to meet with the shortlisted artists and talk to them about their work.
By giving young people direct access to creative industry professionals and businesses, we hope to help inspire and encourage future generations of Northern artists and creative professionals, thus contributing to the area’s position as a centre for creativity and excellence.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The programme is open to young people aged 16-18 years who demonstrate a passion, talent or enthusiasm for visual art.
Note, participants must be able to commit to the full programme.

HOW TO APPLY
