Efterklang
Saturday 25th April to Saturday 2nd May
Venues around Leeds

As recommended by Jane Earnshaw in last month’s ‘Don’t give up the day job’, Fuseleeds returns with another chance to discover new music, including jazz, world, folk, classical and electronica. Packed with new commissions, premieres and innovative new collaborations by UK and international artists, there will be over 30 concerts and a participatory programme taking place at venues across the city.

Highlights include Fusillage, a fuseleeds09 commission by Gavin Bryars and Colleen, which will feature the bells of Leeds Parish Church, the UK premiere of Efterklang’s album Parades with Britten Sinfonia at Leeds Academy, and David Gedge (The Wedding Present) will perform his cult-favourite tracks with the BBC Big Band at the West Yorkshire Playhouse.

We have a pair of tickets for one dear reader for Efterklang on Saturday 25th April from 7pm at the O2 Leeds Academy. Click here to get your mitts on them.

The prize was won by Jon Eland who said this of his experience

Thanks a lot for sorting out the tickets to see Efterklang at the Leeds Academy – it’s always great to win something; but even better when it exposes you to something new that you like.

The whole experience was great – the music brilliantly presented in an orchestral form (tho, until that morning I’d not heard it – a quick education on spotify later ensured I was looking forward to the gig). To my mind it was a good mixture of Polyphonic Spree and Mike Oldfield with a large smattering of Norwegian charm overlayed.

The band also amused and avoided this being a dry occasion – they obviously revelled in delivering this concert and this transferred to the audience. In addition to Efterklang’s great performance, the Britten Sinfonia obviously enjoyed the event and provided a brilliant addition. A nice sized audience ensured this was enjoyable (though seating would have been a boon…)

I really enjoyed the event – bought the CD on the way out and the free poster is now framed and on the wall to my side as I type!
