Stocking Fillers: December at BFI Southbank

Now here is a treat for all our lovely London readers – your chance to get your mitts on one of five pairs of tickets up for grabs during December at BFI Southbank. The ideal opportunity to escape from all the festive flurry, if only for a few hours! And this month, you really are spoilt for choice, with featured seasons ranging from directors Josef von Sternberg and Sally Potter, to a survey of cinema that engages with European identity in Europe Imagined, pioneering radical British television fiction in Radical Television Drama and rarely screend British ‘B’ movies from the BFI National Archive in Cheap Thrills, Double Bills.

To celebrate we have two pairs of tickets to any film screening within the Sally Potter season at the BFI Southbank and three pairs of tickets up for grabs for any film within the Josef von Sternberg season*. To be in with a chance please head down to the comments and tell us the name of the actress who played the title role in Orlando. Josef von Sternberg Season
9th – 30th December

An uncompromising visual stylist who recreated exotic locales as painterly reveries on the studio backlot, Josef von Sternberg was one of Hollywood’s most visionary dreamers and the man Marlene Dietrich called her Master. Sally Potter Film Season
1st – 28th December

Bringing the anarchic, joyous experiments of avant-garde cinema to feature films with Hollywood stars, Sally Potter constantly reinvents herself. Transformation itself is her films’ most constant theme. From her more experimental works, to documentary, to star-studded features, this season contains a film for all tastes.
