Win Something, Something, Something Dark Side on DVD

CV SomethingWhether you think that he’s a genius or are firmly of the belief  that he couldn’t direct himself out of a wet paper bag, I think that everyone can agree that George Lucas a least has a sense of humour. Family Guy: Something, Something, Something Dark Side –– is a pitch perfect spoof of The Empire Strikes Back made with the full blessing of Lucas. A follow up to the Family Guy version of Star Wars – entitled Blue Harvest – this brings back all the Family Guy characters to inhabit the Star Wars Universe. Chris Griffin is Luke Skywalker, Peter is Han Solo and – perhaps best of all – Stewie is a miniature Darth Vader.

This gleefully takes the rise out of the franchise with jokes abound about the true nature of Yoda (he loves DVD extras don’t you know), Stormtroopers who wear shirts to go out clubbing and how the ending of Empire should REALLY have gone. But it’s still done with a great deal of love and affection for the series and makes use of the original soundtrack, sound effects and other surprises to make a funny parody. Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane provides a slew of great voices (including the Henry Higgins inspired tones of Stewie) but kudos also to Seth Green whose Chris/Luke  is very funny indeed and carries along the whole show. It is rather rude for those who are easily offended and those who don’t know the Star Wars films will find a lot of it sailing over their heads. But those who know exactly what a Tauntaun is will laugh long and loud at the swearing, silliness and sci-fi fun of it all.

  1. I really enjoyed the Star wars films – but don’t know the names of the characters that well – I like the really furry one that goes round with Luke Skywalker

  2. My favourite characters are the Klatooine paddy frogs. They’ve got the cute factor, the awww factor (usually aww, shucks when Jabba the Hutt eats them) and they essentially live under a massive hookah, which is just quite cool. And they’re only there to get eaten, which is a real shame – that’s dedication to the art.

Having looked into it further, since they are my favourite and this is a cool competition, I’ve since discovered Jabba’s chef kept them in flavoured brandy to suppress their natural aggression. That’s just even better, cute and pished. I love these little guys. I’d have 18 if I could and I’d call them all Dave.

  3. I like the band in the Cantina at Mos Eisley in Episode 4.

The band is called “Figrin D’an and Modal Nodes”

The band is made up of seven members, all Bith from the planet Clak’dor VII. Only six of the members were playing when Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi walked into the Cantina. Lirin Car’n sat out during the performance, because he was not needed.

  4. Salacious Crumb

If you think about it carefully, the entire Star Wars universe would collapse if it wasn’t for him.

  5. I like Jabba The Hutt because when I look in the mirror that’s who I see. One big fat Jabba lookin back at me.

  6. lt “you rebel scum” Renz (the imperial offier in the endor bunker ROTJ)… simply because barry holland (the guy behind the immortal line is one of the best people ive ever meet at a star wars convention 🙂 …he can talk 4england and his storys about his time in the star wars world are legendary…:-)

  7. I love C3PO – he is completely OCD, which is such a great paradox in a robot! Also he is extremely camp – I think he had a thing for R2D2… =)

  8. Darth Vadar has to be the movie character EVER!! Years later when I,m now watching the films with my kids still scares me!

  9. Absolutely has to be the ewoks. Cute, cuddly and adorable and I admit that I cried when I saw them die during the attack on the death star tracking station in return of the jedi

  10. Yoda from the orgianal 3 films!! When he lifts up the x-wing in ROTJ it really sounds like he’s constipated!! Soooooo funny!

  11. Han Solo
What’s not to like? Captain,Rouge, Pirate, Scallywag, Reluctant Hero.
Han is overly confident and arrogant. He possesses a wry, sarcastic wit, and a reckless manner. This often gets him into predicaments that only his foolhardy courage can get him out of. Han is well traveled, and claims to have been from one side of the galaxy to the other. For a time, Solo didn’t believe in the Force, attributing it to simple luck. Han is pragmatic, some would say mercenary, and his personality often conflicts with Leia’s idealism. Despite such conflicts (or perhaps because of them) the two eventually fell in love.

  12. It has to be Chewbacca. When I was giving birth my midwife commented to my partner that I sounded exactly like Chewbacca, I was not pleased!

  13. My favourite character is Princess Leia. I always wanted to be her when I was a little girl, and now I’ve grown up I’ve got my own little princess ~ my beautiful daughter Leia!!!

  14. Han Solo of course…I can think of a few people i would like to freeze in carbonite to keep them out of mischief 😀

  15. Arvel Crynyd of course is THE most important character here. Without him Darth would still be the top dog. Here was a man who turned the tide of battle, more respect for Arvel!!
